Oceanside CA– The Escondido Mounted Posse was selected and recently accepted to be the Oceanside Independence Day Parade Color Guard presenting the American Flags at the opening of the parade. The downtown Oceanside parade will take place, Saturday, June 28th, on Coast Highway from Wisconsin Avenue to Civic Center Drive. The event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. and ends at noon.
“It is an honor to have this prestigious organization to start off for the parade’s 101st time,'” says Cathy Nykiel, parade committee member.
The Escondido Posse is made up of many former and retired military volunteers and participates in over 15 parades and events annually throughout California and Arizona, to serve as an historical reminder of Escondido’s early years. Charted in 1948, the Escondido Mounted Posse was organized to support the local police at a time when there were only 12 regular officers. The Posse was also called upon to assist with disasters and performed search and rescue operations and in addition, to act as ” ambassadors ” for the City of Escondido.
Nykiel explained that special Oceanside parade entries like this bring us all a great sense of the American Spirit and gratitude for those who have served our country. “Over 100 entries are expected to participate in this annual Americana event.”
