Oceanside CA– Oceanside police are investigating the reported stabbing death of a man found behind the Rite-Aid, 3805 Plaza Drive at 11:15 p.m., on Tuesday.
The victim was found in a homeless camp down in a ravine near the Buena Vista Creek, between Plaza Drive and Esplanade St, by a friend who went to check on him. The man who found him went for help.
The Oceanside Fire Department responded, staged for police and the air ambulance put on standby, however, the victim was pronounced dead on the scene. It is believed he had been dead between 12 and 24 hours.
The incident is being treated as a homicide because it was unattended and the person had a possible wound in his abdominal area. The decision to classify it as a homicide is pending the results of the autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Crimes of Violence Unit responded and has conducted a witness check of the area. The investigations Division will continue to follow up on the incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to phone Detective Bill Wallace at (760)435-4892.
The San Diego County Coroner, who is investigating the death, retrieved the body about 4:30 this morning. Oceanside Field Technicians and Police detectives cleared the scene approximately 6:10 this morning.
The victims identity has not been released. No further details available at this time.
