Oceanside CA- The Accenture Ironman 70.3 event hits Oceanside, this weekend, but road closures are few unless you need to go aboard Camp Pendleton. The three stages of the race, swim, bike and running, will be held in and around the harbor, through Camp Pendleton and along the beach. The event begins Thursday with athlete check-in and Ironman Night at the Sunset Market. It ends, Saturday after the awards ceremony approximately 4:00 p.m. pending the last racer across the finish line.
Friday night, 5:00 p.m., is the Ironkids Fun Run, which consists of a ¼ mile, ½ mile or 1 mile, course near the Oceanside Pier. Online registration is closed for the Ironkids event but you can register at the Beach Community Center , Thursday 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The event is for children 3-15 years old with an entry fee of $15.00.
Saturdays main event begins with a 1.2 mile swim at the harbor followed by a 56 mile bike ride through Camp Pendleton and finishes with the 13.1 mile rung along beach streets near downtown Oceanside. For security reasons, spectators will not be allowed along the bike course aboard the base.
