Oceanside CA- (OPD) Thursday March 13, 2014 marked the one year anniversary of the double homicide at Libby Lake Park in 2013. People will remember that two teens were murdered and two others were seriously wounded in that incident. The community and several organizations decided to remember the incident, but put a positive emphasis on it.
Members of the community as well as REACH, Vista Community Clinic, the United States Marine Corps, Oceanside Parks and Rec, Lifeline, Save our Streets, Victory Outreach, KIIS FM, Mira Costa College, and members of the Oceanside Police Department’s Neighborhood Policing Team and Canine Unit pitched in for a memorable event.
Maria Yanez of the Neighborhood Services Department said, “I had several residents walking through the park ask me about the event and seem excited that the teens were being so active and involved in the safety of their neighborhood. Every person I spoke with indicated their support of the City and Police Department’s efforts to improve the conditions and safety of the park. But it has been the youth, VCC staff, residents and the
faith-based groups that are in the neighborhood every day and weekend that have done a tremendous job of making Libby Lake neighborhood and park safe and moving forward.”
A terrific time was had by all and there was an estimate of approximately 200 in attendance. Kudos and thanks to all who made this an event to remember!
