UPDATE: Baby found safe and father arrested in Mexico. More infornmation as it becomes available.
Oceanside CA- A state-wide Amber Alert has been issued for two-week old Henry Guler-Romero allegedly taken by his father, Mesut Guler, 22 from the Bay Area.
On Wednesday morning, San Diego police confirmed the 22-year-old fathers’s cell phone signal was detected near Interstate 805 and Balboa Avenue around 11:55 p.m. Tuesday. And the CHP received a report just after 2 a.m. on Wednesday that an SUV with the same license plate number was spotted Tuesday between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the Hillcrest area, which is about three miles from downtown San Diego.
Guler, who had been fighting with the baby’s mother because he had wanted to move to New York, allegedly took his 2-week-old baby, Henry Guler-Romero, about 4 p.m. Tuesday from the apartment he lived in with the boy’s mother in the 900 block of Helen Ave., Pitts said. It took some time to issue the Amber Alert, Pitts said, because the abduction wasn’t reported until more than six hours later and because there were some Spanish language issues in speaking with the mother. The baby’s mother also told officers that Guler had friends in Mexico, prompting authorities to notify the border police to be on the lookout for him, Pitts said.
The suspect is described as Turkish, 6 feet tall and 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Authorities said he may be driving a tan 2004 GMC Envoy with a large American eagle on the rear window. License plate number is 6HIL892.
Motorists who see the vehicle were asked to call 911 immediately.
