In sports this weekend for Oceanside. The Oceanside Pirates travel to Carlsbad, Friday night at 7:00 PM to take on the undefeated Lancers in a Avocado League match up. El Camino is at home playing the 3-2 La Costa Canyon Mavericks, also Friday night, at 7:00 PM.
The undefeated North County Cobras are on the road taking on the Valley Predators Saturday, 7:00 PM Paloma Valley High School in Menifee.
Special Note for the Coaster
Starting at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, October 12, through 5 a.m., Monday, October 14, the coastal rail corridor—the track on which the COASTER travels—will be shut down between the Sorrento Valley Station and Santa Fe Depot. The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) will continue construction on the Tecolote/Washington Crossovers project. Construction noise is anticipated from this project. Construction planned for this rail corridor will improve both freight and passenger rail operations for years into the future.
North County Transit District’s COASTER commuter rail service will not be running between the Sorrento Valley Station and Santa Fe Depot from Saturday, October 12 through the early morning hours of Monday, October 14. COASTER service will be back in time for the Monday morning commuter service and the Chargers’ Monday Night Football game.

Also on Saturday. 7:00 PM, OMFest presents Robert Estrin in “Living Piano…A Journey Through Time” at 1st Presbyterian Church, 2001 South El Camino Real. Mr. Estrin will be holding a Master Class for advanced piano students the afternoon before the concert, and one or more of enrolled students will be selected to perform during this concert
Jazz and Art at the Brooks
An Evening of Jazz & Art with Blue Chunks Jazz as artistry once again collides at the historic Brooks Theatre in Oceanside for a special, one night only event featuring the premiere jazz ensemble, Blue Chunks, on October 12.
Musical virtuosos Kamau Kenyatta on piano, Troy Jennings on saxophone, Curtis Taylor on trumpet, Scott Gressitt on bass and Richard Sellers on drums, will fill the theatre with decidedly funky renditions of engaging jazz standards, while the lobby plays host to an intimate gallery of original artwork. Special guests include Boaz and Avalon Roberts on guitar and vocals.
Lobby doors will open for “happy hour”and gallery viewing starting at 6:30 p.m with a showtime of 7:30
Proceeds from the event will support two great causes: Oceanside Theatre Company, a California public benefit corporation dedicated to promoting artistic endeavors throughout North San Diego County, and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego, which provides a “home away from home” for families with children being treated for serious and life-threatening conditions at local hospitals.
General admission $25 and a VIP package is $75 per person: VIP ticket package includes premium seating and pre-show champagne reception next door in Studio 219.
