Workforce Development Courses
MiraCosta College’s Community Education and Workforce Development Program is offering the following not-for-credit courses this spring:
Composite Materials
Students will learn about core materials, fabrics, epoxy and adhesives, plastics, metals, ceramics, and carbon fiber, and will also learn about patterns, molds, tooling, and supplies needed to create prototypes.

Digital Precision Measuring Using a Portable CMM
This is an introduction to metrology using a portable CMM and Verisurf CAD software. Students will learn the basics of inspection, measurement, analysis, and reverse engineering.

Intermediate SolidWorks®
Topics for Prototyping
Once you know the basics of SolidWorks., take your CAD skills to the next level with this 30-hour intermediate SolidWorks.
Fee: $150; admin fee: $50. Location: Technology Career Institute. Time: Tuesdays, 3/28–5/30, 6–9 p.m.
3D Creature Creation (Ages 14+)
3D Creature Creation emphasizes the use of 3D animation for organic models, such as humans and creatures. Focus is placed on anatomically correct body parts and proportions.
Fee: Before 3/25, $90; after, $99. Location: MiraCosta College, Room 4611, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Time: Saturdays, 4/1–5/13, 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
Welding I Certificate
This course is designed to train students to be able to qualify for an American
Welding Society (AWS) certification. The course will explore basic welding processes and procedures, safety, interpretations of blueprints/shop drawings, metallurgy, different fabrication tools, different welding qualifications, and procedure qualification.
Fee: $2,750. Location: Landes Recreation Center, 2855 Cedar Rd, Oceanside. Time: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 4/11–6/29, 5–9 p.m.
Intermediate CNC Programming
(Using MasterCam Mill)
MasterCam is the most widely used CAM software in the industry, and this intermediate, 30-hour course will provide students with trade-specific tips and tricks, whether they are within the production or the programming department.
