Oceanside CA— MiraCosta College students who earn an associate degree in business can remain at the Oceanside Campus while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the subject, thanks to a new agreement with Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU).
Upper division courses will be taught by professors from PLNU. Courses will be taught both online and in the classroom, and PLNU will also station a counselor at MiraCosta College to advise current and prospective students.
The MiraCosta College Board of Trustees approved the program at its March 9 meeting. The program, which gets underway this coming fall, also has been approved by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
“MiraCosta College is dedicated to expanding pathways, and this new program gives our students one more option in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration,” said Dr. Sunita “Sunny” Cooke, superintendent/president of MiraCosta College. “We are pleased to partner with Point Loma Nazarene University, which has among the premier business schools in our region.”
The bachelor’s degree will be conferred by PLNU.
MiraCosta College last year embarked on a similar program enabling nursing students completing their associate degree to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing within 15 months without leaving the Oceanside Campus.
In addition, this coming fall, MiraCosta College will launch its own baccalaureate program in biomanufacturing. The biomanufacturing program is aimed at setting students up for state-of-the-art work in the thriving manufacturing sector of the biotechnology industry. MiraCosta was among one of just 15 community colleges that in 2015 secured the green light from the California Community Colleges’ Board of Governors to host a pilot bachelor’s degree program in career technical fields for the first time in history.
