Oceanside CA— The MiraCosta Community College District is among the first in the state to achieve full reaffirmation of accreditation from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The commission recognized the quality education MiraCosta College offers its students by reaffirming the college’s accreditation for seven years, the maximum time allowed. The decision concluded a review process that included an extensive report of institutional effectiveness written by MiraCosta College administrators, faculty and staff; a campus visit by a team of peer evaluators representing ACCJC; and consideration by the commission at its January meeting.
“Being accredited is an integral part of assuring quality to the public,” said MiraCosta Board of Trustees President David Broad. “We are gratified that the accrediting commission recognizes the hard work of MiraCosta faculty, staff and administrators in providing the highest quality education for our students and being mindful stewards of the public’s trust.”
In its report, the accrediting team offered commendations for the college’s positive campus culture, use of student success data, integrated planning processes and its budget document. The team also complemented the college’s Safe Space Program, which aims to increase awareness of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersexed, and asexual/ally communities on campus. Further, the team recognized Project Joy, a teaching and learning event that promoted the profession of teaching and its impact on student success.
