Oceanside CA— The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce and Genentech have collaborated to provide $20,000 in classroom grants for Oceanside Unified School District. The grants were awarded to more than 35 educators of students in kindergarten through 12th grade for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) related projects.
The grants were disbursed in increments averaging approximately $500, and will be used to provide much-needed funds for equipment, experiments, classroom projects and field trips related to STEM.
“We often hear that teachers lack funds to bring hands-on STEM resources into their classroom. Partnering with the Chamber allows us to remove barriers and make a direct impact in the local classroom”, said Don Fitzgerald, Vice President and General Manager of Genentech in Oceanside.
For over a decade, the Chamber has raised funds to support scholarships and classroom grants, typically disbursing around $3,000 per year in grants. “This new partnership with Genentech has allowed us to have a greater impact on education than ever before”, said Scott Ashton, CEO of the Oceanside Chamber.
