Oceanside CA— An Honorary Diploma Prorgam has been created by the Oceanside Unified School District to recognize OUSD students who did not graduate from high school, but went on to complete their adult high school diploma at MiraCosta College.
The request for the program came from the community, “We are very excited about this program. Our board thought this was a great opportunity to encourage continued learning and the importance of attaining a high school diploma.” said a spokesperson for OUSD.
“I support this program for many reasons. Most importantly because I personally know the difference it will make.” Katherine Gonzalez told OUSD Board. “Having a diploma is a powerful message to yourself. “I believe it will be a catalyst for others to further their educations and further the growth of the economic structure as a whole. Not only in their individual families but in society.”
Currently, the program is only being offered to students who complete their adult high school diploma at MiraCosta College. “Depending on interest, the plan is to do this at least once or twice a year. We would love to expand to Palomar however we needed to do a pilot program first. MiraCosta was the perfect fit and has been supportive of this idea from the minute we brought it to them.” said the OUSD spokesperson.
