San Diego CA— With less than two months left of 2021, ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station is showcasing all things dance while also helping you get in the holiday spirit. Enjoy performances from some of San Diego’s longest standing professional dance organizations and learn more about NTC Foundation’s arts and education program for underserved youth. LIVE MUSIC AT APT 4 MUSIC
Apt 4 Music, a music instructional and production organization, is hosting a free evening of live music on the lawn outside of their studio in the Dorothea Laub Music & Arts Center on November 5 from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. The lineup includes performances by local teen bands Violet Drive and The Mad Hatters, along with special performances by Apt 4 Music teachers, family and friends. Plus, some of Apt 4 Music’s students will also take the stage to perform. Apt 4 Music is focused on providing individuals, families, organizations, and educators from all walks of life access to the musical arts and education, as well as community outreach and support programs, event productions, and more.
SAN DIEGO BALLET HOSTS FINAL WEEKEND OF “RITMOS LATINOS”
Join San Diego Ballet for the final weekend of their “Ritmos Latinos” performances. A celebration of Latin rhythms and ballet, the evening will feature two of San Diego Ballet’s audience favorites in one program. Get swept away in the evocative and romantic Que Bonito Amor (How Beautiful is Love) set to a rapturous score of Mariachi music. Mambomania, one of Artistic Director Javier Velasco’s sizzling signature works and a San Diego Ballet’s signature piece, is set to the music of Velasco’s childhood and danced with a great deal of dynamism. The performances will take place at 2:30 p.m. on November 6th and 7th in the scenic Ingram Plaza at ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station, allowing audiences to enjoy the performances in the open air. SAN DIEGO DANCE THEATER JOURNEY INTO THE HEART & SOUL
San Diego Dance Theater is concluding their 2021 season with “Capturing Balance: Dances of Life, Love and Loss.” The evening will feature dances taking the viewer on a journey into the heart and soul with dances choreographed by Artistic Director Terry Wilson, former Artistic Director Jean Isaacs, and Guest Choreographer Khamla Somphanh. MALASHOCK DANCE EVERYDAY DANCES
Malashock Dance will be premiering “Everyday Dances”, a show comprised of short contemporary dances in small groupings, created by San Diego-based choreographers who offer different perspectives, styles, and aesthetic choices. Performances will include dances by John Malashock and commissioned San Diego choreographers including Blythe Burton, Ryan Orion Beck, Lauren Christie, Marcos Duran, and Odessa Uno. Performances will be held at their studio (2650 Truxton Rd. Suite 200) on November 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. and November 21 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets start at $25 per person, $20 for senior/military and $15 for students along with a special “pay what you can” for their November 21st performance. CREATIVE CONVERSATIONS WITH LIBERTY SCHOOL
Tune in for an inspiring conversation with NTC Foundation and Liberty School featuring Outside the Lens and San Diego Youth Symphony on November 30 from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Liberty School is NTC Foundation’s arts and education program for underserved youth that offers art education and integration into the classroom to over 600 elementary school children. This conversation will focus on the impact of the arts and how they apply the arts, early childhood learning, college readiness and ARTS integration. This conversation will feature President and CEO, Michael Remson and Program Director Kate Battenfeld from San Diego Youth Symphony along with Program Manager, Brooke Newman and Teaching Artist Jana McBeath from Outside the Lens. SKATE INTO THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH THE RETURN OF THE OUTDOOR ICE RINK
NTC Foundation and Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary, are celebrating the holiday season with the return of their outdoor ice rink beginning Thursday, November 18, and closing January 9, 2022. Located in the Central Promenade at ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station, all net proceeds from the ice rink benefit the Thriving After Cancer program at the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s Hospital. This year will feature additional safety protections including hand hygiene stations and disinfectant spray for the skates and helmets. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for children and $10 for military or groups over 10 people. Tickets will be available for purchase online beginning November 15.
