Oceanside CA— Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has received a $15,000 grant from the Oceanside Community Foundation to provide programming to youth on racial and social justice topics. Funding from the Oceanside Community Foundation will support the Club in implementing their Youth for Unity program, which also includes hosting Racial and Social Justice Youth Symposiums in the upcoming year.
BGCO’s Youth for Unity program provides youth with the groundwork that will help them better understand and appreciate diversity and combat prejudice, bigotry and discrimination. This amazing program provides a comprehensive, broad-based set of activities to help members appreciate themselves as unique individuals; understand the community’s diversity; recognize bias; and take personal leadership in confronting bias. Racial and Social Justice Youth Symposiums will tackle current issues and tough topics like “How to Be an Ally and Why It Matters,” and “Understanding the Black Lives Matter Movement.”
“We are tremendously grateful for Oceanside Community Foundation’s support,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO. “Our youth have witnessed shocking and traumatic events over the past year, including the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and others. We are at a pivotal moment in this country’s history and want our youth to have the tools they need to navigate these complicated issues. The goal of Youth for Unity is to help them process these events and empower them to use their voices to confront bias and discrimination in their community,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO.
