San Diego CA— The San Diego Architectural Foundation (SDAF) will celebrate San Diego’s inspired design with its 43rd Orchids & Onions Awards Ceremony at the historic US Grant Hotel, a previous Orchid winner, on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. The Orchids & Onions program brings San Diegans together to decide which parts of the built environment make our city a better place to live. The Awards Ceremony will be a thought-provoking night of commentary and discussion about the new crop of projects, spaces and places in San Diego that will be recognized as 2019 Orchids and Onions. Guests can expect to experience an evening filled with tasty appetizers, delicious cocktails and an enlightening awards presentation.
“We are excited to celebrate this special evening with the individuals who work so hard to change the future of San Diego County for the better,” said Laura Warner, Orchids & Onions Program Co-Chair and Principal Architect for CityWorks. “Through the Awards Ceremony and program, we aim to inspire industry professionals to create projects that are the next best place to be.”
Assembly member Todd Gloria will be the MC for the evening and will award the 2019 Orchids & Onions. The fun-filled event will kick off with the VIP Pre-Reception from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by the General Reception from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the Ceremony beginning at 8:30 p.m.
“We invite San Diegans to join us for the 43rd Annual Awards Ceremony and find out which projects will take home an Orchid or an Onion!” said Rachel Morel, Orchids & Onions Communications Director and PGAL Senior Associate. “We could not do it without the support of our amazing sponsors, volunteers, jurors and the community.”
For 43 years, the San Diego Architectural Foundation has brought the community together to celebrate the importance of architecture in our daily lives and raise public awareness and appreciation for the important work industry professionals do to create inspired places and spaces.
The annual event will be held on Thursday, October 3 at the US Grant Hotel, 326 Broadway, San Diego, CA 92101. Early bird tickets are on sale now until Aug. 31.
