Oceanside CA— MainStreet Oceanside is hosting an Oceanside Mural Initiative (OMI) Open House tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the future installation site of the second OMI mural, That Boy Good BBQ and Northern Pine Brewing, 326 N. Horne St. During the two-hour open house, which will start at 5 p.m., MainStreet will introduce three finalists to create the mural and unveil their mural concepts to the community. Starting this evening, the Oceanside community will have the opportunity to choose the final mural through a public vote.
Chosen by a six-member selection panel of Downtown Oceanside leaders, business owners and residents, the three finalists are Amy Burkman, Rik Erickson and Gloria Muriel. The muralists were chosen based on their concept’s ability to visually captivate the viewer, how well the mural design represents Oceanside’s unique and diverse character, and their technical skill.
The community will have the opportunity to vote for the final design in person during the open house and at the Feb. 14 and 21 Sunset Markets, or online from Wednesday, Feb. 13, to Thursday, Feb. 21, at www.mainstreetoceanside.com.
A portion of proceeds from food and beverage sales all day on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at That Boy Good BBQ and Northern Pine Brewing will benefit the OMI. For future murals, MainStreet continues to ask the community to donate $5 or more via the OMI’s GoFundMe page. MainStreet Oceanside will match total donations up to $10,000 and is more than halfway toward this goal.
About the Oceanside Mural Initiative:
The Oceanside Mural Initiative (OMI) seeks to install 10 curated public art murals in Downtown Oceanside over three to five years. OMI is a community-driven initiative that will integrate key partners in the Downtown Oceanside area with the objective of making Oceanside a destination for public art. The OMI will create a model by which Oceanside and other communities can fulfill community-driven arts initiatives, act as a medium for arts education and community outreach, and help to define Oceanside as a community whose identity is built upon and driven by the arts.
