San Diego CA— Below is a list of weekly groups coming up in early 2018 at the San Diego Center for Children.
Adults with Asperger-like Thinking Therapy Group
Connect with other adults in a supportive environment to grow your skills in building relationships, social knowledge, and educational/vocational transitions.
You may benefit from this group if you:
- Don’t feel like you understand others, get overwhelmed by different emotions or environments, or find socializing challenging or draining.
- Are overwhelmed by other people’s ideas of what you “are supposed to” do in life.
- Struggle with anxiety, nervousness, lack of or challenges with motivation.
- Have a diagnosis of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), High-Functioning Autism (HFA), social anxiety or similar challenges.
- Having a diagnosis is not a requirement. Groups are led by pre-licensed marriage and family therapy trainees and interns. Under supervision of Courtney Olinger, PsyD, LMFT.
Registration is required by January 15. Group meets every Monday from 6:00pm – 7:30pm from January 22 – March 19, 2018.
Science Group for Children with Autism & Similar Conditions
Let’s experiment through science! Children, ages 8-12, will have fun engaging in weekly science activities while also practicing an important social skill. Our upcoming 8-week session will focus on self-advocacy, specifically designed for children with social learning challenges, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or similar needs.
Please contact the Family Wellness Center for more information and to register. Group meets every Thursday from 4:00pm – 5:00pm, January 11 – March 1. Please call for fees. Registration and scholarship request deadline is January 8.
Soccer Clinic for Children with Autism
Our ongoing 6-week soccer clinic supports children, ages 4-10, with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to build confidence and have fun!
Children will learn soccer and teamwork skills in a non-competitive environment. Our soccer clinic is based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) skills training and is led and supervised by our team of adult experts. Soccer clinic is held each Saturday for one hour with a FREE TRIAL session on February 3.
Soccer clinic is every Saturday from 9:00am – 10:00am, February 10 – March 17. Rain date on March 31 if needed. Please call for registration and fees. Scholarship opportunities available. New participants must attend a free trial.
Social Skills Group for Teens with Autism & Similar Conditions
Providing a safe and supportive environment for teens to expand their social knowledge and abilities! Middle and high school students meet every Thursday to learn a specific social skill through fun activities and interactive discussion. Our upcoming 8-week session focuses on relationship maintaining, and is specifically designed for teens with social learning challenges, High-Functioning Autism (HFA) or similar needs.

Support Group for Parents of Teens with Autism & Similar Conditions
Parents of teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or similar conditions, join together in a supportive and friendly environment to gain knowledge and build community. Parents leave each session with skills to understand their child’s diagnosis and its effects on their family, how to build family support, and how to care for themselves and their relationships.
Please know you are not alone – our trained therapists are here to support and connect you with parents who have similar experiences. Having your child diagnosed is not a requirement. To register and for additional information, please contact our Family Wellness Center. RSVP is required. $90 fee covers the following 6 sessions: January 9, 16, 23, 30, February 6, 13.
