Del Mar CA— Entries are now being accepted for the Homemade Wines competition at the 2017 San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons|Vons. This category is for the amateur winemaker, 21 years or older who loves wine, as well as the wine making community. It is not for the professional winemaker or anyone applying for State or Federal licensing. Entry fees are $20 each, and registration is online only at sdfair.com/participate.
New this year, only one bottle of the homemade wine is required per entry, and the Awards Ceremony & Exhibitor Tasting will be joined together in a same-day festive and social celebration well before the Fair, on April 22. Industry professionals and judges will taste the Homemade Wine entries in a closed, blind judging session. After judging, all the wines will be available to taste at the Awards Ceremony & Exhibitor Tasting where competitors can meet and mingle with fellow home winemakers.
Deadline to enter this competition is March 29; entry delivery for one required bottle is April 12, 2017. Typically, the Homemade Wines competition sees about 300 entries and gives entrants a chance to have their wine professionally judged, receive quality feedback, meet other winemakers and win ribbons.
