Bike-friendly café in Point Loma to auction custom-painted bike frames
San Diego CA— The Coffee Hub & Café, a bike-inspired coffee bar serving breakfast and lunch, officially opens its doors in the heart of Point Loma on Saturday, March 4. At its free grand opening celebration from 8 a.m. to noon, the locally owned cafe invites the community to sip on complimentary coffee and partake in bike-themed activities to raise money for an organization that empowers children through creativity. The event will feature an auction of bike frames painted locally by professional artists as well as a bike frame painted by children.
“We wanted the introduction of the Coffee Hub to encompass our community values, including tasty coffee and local causes,” says Coffee Hub & Café Owner Sandy Hanshaw. “At the grand opening, we’ll share coffee with old friends and new customers while giving back to this one-of-a-kind group of artists making our neighborhood a better place.”
Starting at 8 a.m. guests will mingle at the Coffee Hub for complimentary caffeine and conversation. People on all types of bicycles will then embark on a casual tour of Point Loma’s noteworthy sites to honor the Hub’s dedication to the bike community. Upon their return, partygoers will begin the celebration in style just outside the Hub’s doors. Neighbors will peruse displays of beautiful bike frames painted like artwork, while enjoying the sounds of San Diego artist Rhea Makiaris – locally roasted coffee in hand at all times.
Attendees can bid on the intricately painted bike frames, designed by local artists solely for the event – Kate Cowper of Hub & Spoke, Ruth McGraw of Marvel Tactical Design, Kristel Boe of ArtBeat San Diego and children artists from Young at Art, the event beneficiary. They can also test their luck at games of chance to win prizes ranging from Coffee Hub gift cards to bike gear. Finally, a live auction will leave one lucky bidder riding out of the event on one of the painted frames fully built into a bicycle. The event wraps up at noon, and all proceeds from the games and live auction will benefit the students at Young at Art.
The Coffee Hub & Café quietly opened its doors on February 4, welcoming the community for a taste of its bike-themed interior and coffee from a local Point Loma roaster. The café serves up breakfast and lunch daily until 2 p.m.
