Del Mar CA— The 36th annual Design in Wood Competition, a highly regarded exhibit at the San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons|Vons, is accepting entries from woodworkers 18 years and older. This international exhibition of fine woodworking is created in collaboration with the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association and highlights more than 350 entries. The entry fee is $20 per wood project and must be registered online before April 28 at sdfair.com/participate.
Woodworkers from all over the world compete in this show, which is considered one of the largest exhibitions of its kind, according to Fine Woodworking Magazine. The exhibit includes exquisite traditional, contemporary and art furniture, musical instruments, carvings, clocks, turnings, models and more. Many entries are museum-quality and some are sold during the Fair. Delivery or mailed entries are due on May 25.
Each entry is professionally judged by a panel of master woodworkers and industry professionals in a closed blind judging session. Each entry has the opportunity to win many awards and trophies at the San Diego County Fair, California’s largest county Fair. Exhibitors receive quality feedback and will have their items professionally displayed during the Fair, which attracted more than 1.6 million visitors last year. All participants with exhibited pieces are invited to the Exhibitor Awards on June 1, before the Fair opens the following day.
The competition also has a Fair Theme Award for the exhibit that best represents this year’s “Where the West is Fun,” theme featuring western-inspired movies, art and nostalgia. The winner will receive $250 and a Rosette.
