Organization to host virtual holiday gatherings, deliver hot meals and distribute New Year’s party packages
$2,500 holiday mini grant gifted from San Diego Seniors Community Foundation makes event possible
San Diego CA— During the week of December 28, Jewish Family Service will host up to 15 virtual holiday events featuring drawing, sing-along, trivia, music, poetry and more. On December 31, the organization will host a virtual New Year’s party for participants to play games, sing, celebrate and watch a “ball drop” countdown. In advance of the New Year’s celebration, Jewish Family Service will put together party packages filled with 2021 goodies including glasses, party hats, and noisemakers and deliver them to the homes of senior clients.
In addition, the organization will deliver the New Year’s party packages and warm meals to members of the BAOAC, a center for mild cognitive impairment and dementia, and the CAC Social and Wellness Centers, care partners, volunteers, and staff. These festivities are made possible by the generosity of the San Diego Seniors Community Foundation’s (SDSCF) holiday grants, as part of its No Senior Alone Initiative. The foundation gave over $31,000 in holiday grants to 12 local senior centers to help bring joy to older people who are not seeing family or loved ones this year due to COVID-19 stay-at-home orders.
Much of the older population will not be able to celebrate the holidays with friends or family, this season. As a result, older people are expected to face increased social isolation which can lead to negative health outcomes. Together, SDSCF and Jewish Family Service will support isolated people by creating holiday themed programming and events that will spread holiday cheer.
