The Supercenter features new Tesla Roof Solar Panels, and Year-Round Beach Merchandise
Remodel is part of Walmart’s $145M improvement investment in California stores
Oceanside CA— Last week, Walmart celebrated the grand re-opening of the newly remodeled Oceanside Walmart at 2100 Vista Way with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community event. The improvements at the Oceanside Supercenter are part of Walmart’s plan to spend an estimated $145 million this year in California through the remodeling and opening of 21 stores and continued expansion of several innovations that save customers time and money.
“We have made major state-of-the-art investments in renovating our 20-year-old store to make our customers’ time inside more enjoyable and easier to navigate,” said store manager Joseph Champey. “The outcome is truly beautiful, reflects the Oceanside charm, and is more energy efficient.”
The store opened in 1998 and was the first of four Walmarts to open in Oceanside. “With more than 300 employees, this store is one of Oceanside’s largest employers” said Oceanside Mayor, Peter Weiss at the ribbon cutting on Friday.
The following improvements were done at the Oceanside Walmart:
• New roof with Tesla solar panels
• New year-round beach merchandise, like toys and swimwear
• New fishing tackle for salt water fishing and fly fishing
• Energy-efficient in-door freezers with sliding doors
• All-in-one counter in the painting, fishing, TLE service, and sporting goods departments
• More handicap parking that makes the store more accessible through every entrance
• State-of-the-art electronics department with interactive displays that allow customers to try laptops, tablets, mobile phones and more before purchase
• Enhanced home and apparel departments with a new layout
• Improved layout and lighting in produce and bakery
• Refreshed Walmart MoneyCenter
• A larger assortment of industrial and power tools in hardware
• New lights and register added in the cosmetics area
• Newly polished concrete floors

Innovations
In addition to store remodels, Walmart will continue to innovate to help customers save time and money by giving them the option to shop when, where and how they want. The following are examples of the customer-focused innovations that are being expanded this year in California stores:
• Free Grocery Pickup – Busy customers love Walmart’s grocery pickup option, which combines the convenience of shopping online and the ease of quickly picking up groceries without having to leave their cars. The best part: it’s all at no additional cost. Walmart plans to expand the popular program to more than 69 stores across California by the end of the year. The company also recently introduced Walmart Voice Order, which allows customers to simply say “Hey Google, talk to Walmart” and the Google Assistant will add items directly to their Walmart Grocery cart.
• Walmart Pickup Towers – Walmart Pickup Towers are 16-feet tall, high-tech vending machines capable of fulfilling a customer’s online order in less than a minute once they arrive at the store. It’s easy to do – once the order is ready, step up to the Pickup Tower and scan the barcode sent to your smartphone to retrieve your item. This year, Walmart plans to add 27 Pickup Towers to stores across the state.
• Grocery Delivery – Walmart’s convenient grocery delivery service is also proving to be a hit with customers. This year, Walmart plans to add the service to 68 California stores, increasing its coverage area in the state.
• FAST Unloader – Today, product is unloaded as it arrives at the store through a complex, highly manual process that has seen little innovation over the last 50 years – until now. A new system in Walmart backrooms – known as FAST –automatically scans and sorts items that come off trucks based on priority and department, allowing associates to spend less time unloading in the backroom and more time on the sales floor with customers. This year, Walmart plans to expand the technology to 61 stores across California.
• Autonomous Floor Scrubber – The autonomous floor scrubber uses assisted autonomy technology to perform the task of cleaning and scrubbing the concrete floors in stores. The company plans to expand the technology to 45 stores across California this year.
