VOASW opened its Hawley Veteran Services Center (HVSC) for McGriff Insurance volunteers to refurbish program bedrooms and enhance the quality of life for veterans with disabilities. About 30 volunteers from McGriff Insurance worked together in four hour shifts to refurbish 12 Hawley Veteran Services Center bedrooms. Volunteers painted walls of all resident rooms and distributed newly purchased furnishings including dressers, lamps, bed tables, chairs, artwork and bedding.
Volunteers of America Southwest’s Hawley Veterans Services Center is a transitional housing program for homeless veterans with mental health diagnoses. This transitional housing program extends 20 beds to single male veterans who are homeless and are moving toward permanent housing. Veterans can reside in the program for approximately 90 days as they wait for their permanent housing opportunities to become available. Veterans receive intensive support to help them find housing.
