Escondido CA— Four Rotary Clubs from Escondido and one from San Marcos are joining forces once again during the first Saturday of the new year to support the North County Veterans Stand Down and homeless veterans.
For the third year in a row, Rotarians will be collecting both men’s and women’s new and used clothing, blankets, shoes, towels and now, monetary donations in front of the Escondido City Hall from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on January 5, 2018.
“People get a lot of new clothes for Christmas and they need to make room,” Event Organizer and Rotarian Doug Clark said. “So, we thought why not time the event right after they cleaned out their closets and drawers and they could support the vets by donating their unused clothes to start the new year.”
Used clothing for both men and women such as jackets, sweatshirts, and shoes in all sizes are needed along with new socks and underwear. In addition to clothes, people will be able to drop off money donations as well.
“We realized last year that not everybody had clothing items to donate or already donated them to another organization, but still wanted to give somehow and support our veterans,” Clark said.
All clothing donations will be given to AMVETS and brought to Green Oak Ranch in Vista during the North County Veteran Stand Down that takes place February 7 – 10, 2019. People who cannot make it that day but would still like to donate are encouraged to call AMVETS at 1-877-990-8387 or visit www.teamamvets.com to schedule a pick-up.
