San Diego County CA— The SANDAG iCommute program has collaborated with Waze Carpool and military bases around the region for the nation’s first-ever, free-ride offer for anyone who works on a San Diego military base.
“The San Diego region is home to one of the largest military populations in the nation. We are excited to partner with Waze Carpool to ease traffic congestion, help the environment, and give our servicemembers free rides to and from work,” said SANDAG Chair and Del Mar City Councilmember Terry Sinnott.
Waze Carpool will offer free rides to new and existing carpoolers who commute to military bases and subbases in San Diego County for one month– no promo code needed:
- August: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and Naval Base San Diego
- September: Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton
- October: Marine Corps Recruit Depot and Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado
- November: Naval Base Point Loma and U.S. Coast Guard
To use, download the Waze Carpool app and search for a ride to and from work. Each base will be geofenced during the promotional period; anyone beginning or ending a trip on a designated base will be eligible for free rides.
Military base carpoolers can choose their carpool companion by searching through profiles to find travelers who live nearby and work on base. Those who prefer to drive can use the Waze app to offer rides and receive $0.54 per mile for gas money.
Carpoolers can also take advantage of regional carpool benefits like HOV and Express Lanes, Park & Ride lots, and the Guaranteed Ride Home program. Visit the SANDAG iCommute website for more information about carpooling and other commuter resources.
