Grant to Enrich After School Programming
Oceanside CA— Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has received $1,000 in funding from Oceanside Elks Lodge to enrich after-school programming. This funding comes in anticipation of the Center for Innovation, expected to open in spring of 2018.
This grant will provide hands-on education for youth, specializing in the areas of culinary arts, performing arts, and STREAM (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities.
BGCO offers after school programing to more than 1,400 youth daily and continues to raise the bar on programming, celebrating STEM Day at every site and working to build civic engagement in youth, such as what ‘community’ means and how to play an active role.
The new Center for Innovation will provide space for focused programming. Youth will learn math through measuring while baking in the Culinary Arts Teaching Kitchen, engineering through light design for stage productions in the Performing Arts Center, and plant life cycles through hands on experience in the green house area of the STREAM Lab.
“We strive to provide engaging and impactful learning opportunities to our members during out-of-school hours,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO. “Funding from Oceanside Elks Lodge will provide us with much needed resources to encourage discovery and exploration in areas of study youth may not know exist.”
