Update:The Rady Children’s Ice Rink at Liberty Station opening originally set for Thursday, Nov. 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. has been postponed due to some unforeseen technical difficulties with the ice making process. The opening has been delayed until further notice. Officials hope to open before the end of the month.

Ice rink opening will kick-off Liberty Station’s Salute the Season holiday schedule

San Diego CA— Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary and Liberty Station, San Diego’s signature neighborhood, will host the grand opening of the Rady Children’s Ice Rink at Liberty Station on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Opening night will feature an ice-skating show, a welcome program, live music, hot chocolate, holiday vendors, festive goodies, and other fun family-friendly activities throughout the whole evening. The rink will be open throughout the holiday season, and all net proceeds will benefit the Rady Children’s Hospital’s Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
“We are so excited to bring this special ice rink to Liberty Station for the third year in a row,” said Bridgett Brown, president of Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary. “It will really set the scene for a magical holiday season, providing families a great way to have fun and also support patients and families at the Peckham Center.”
NBC 7 San Diego will emcee the special evening, which begins with a show performed by San Diego Ice Arena. Starting at 6 p.m., the ice rink will open for the first skate of the season and include a live performance from Skating Santa. The Holiday Marketplace will be open, giving attendees the opportunity to shop for gifts, purchase food and drinks from local vendors and more. Opening night tickets to skate are $10 and include skates.
The ice rink will stay open through Sunday, Jan. 7, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., except Thanksgiving and Christmas, and will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Adult tickets are $14 and children tickets are $12 throughout the season. A limited number of season passes are also available. Tickets can be purchased on-site and are good for reentry throughout the day. Each ticket includes a pair of skates and helmets are availbale to rent as well.
The Rady Children’s Ice Rink at Liberty Station is uniquely designed underground and is the first of its kind in Southern California and is sponsored by the Liberty Station Community Association, the Arts District Liberty Station and NBC 7 San Diego.
