Oceanside CA—The Oceanside Police Department Harbor Unit has announced it is accepting applications from those interested in joining its Volunteer Unit.
Harbor Volunteers assist the Harbor Police Officers and the public within the harbor district in a non-enforcement role, providing services such as vessel safety inspections, general assistance to boaters, dock inspections, and patrol of the harbor area on foot, by boat, and by automobile. They provide additional services within the harbor as ambassadors to provide information to the public, and as “extra eyes” they provide an increased police presence within the area.
Qualified persons will be in good physical condition, have a clear DMV record, be able to pass a police background check, and will be comfortable dealing with the public in a positive manner. Boating experience is a plus. Training in all duty areas and uniforms are provided for those persons selected to join the unit.
For more information on the Harbor Volunteer program, please contact Training Coordinator Don Rodgers at: drodgers@ci.oceanside.ca.us or call 760-435-4000.
