Oceanside CA— The 21st Annual Surf for the Sea will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 9 & 10, 2017 at North Jetty Oceanside Harbor. The Oceanside Firefighters Charity event will take place on Friday, September 8 and will feature public safety officers surfing in a fun filled event.
Surf for the Sea is a commemorative surfing event in loving memory of the late Harry Bennett, Steve Leighton, Tore Bonura, Chuck “Clubber” Hundley, Banning Capps, Court Overin, John Craven, Midget Smith, Casey Williams, Chris Pompa, Michael Pultz, Susie Prestie, John Douglas, Brandon Dreyer and Logan Lipton, all local surfers and family of Surf for the Sea who have passed away.
This is a memorial event to benefit the Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Chapter in their quest to protect our coast, ocean, waves and beaches. Trophies will be awarded in 15 divisions. The entry fee is $50 for amateur and $100 for the Pro Division. All competitors receive an event T-shirt, lunch catered by local Oceanside restaurant Johnny Manana’s, and a chance at the opportunity raffle including surfboards, wetsuits, and great prizes provided by the surfing industry.
Surf for the Sea also includes a Beach Clean-Up that ties into the theme of environmental awareness.
