Nearly $37 million raised nationally during seven-week campaign helps fund critical medical care for local kids
San Diego County CA— Local Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers and members wrapped up a seven-week campaign, collecting $428,619.42 on behalf of Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. It was part of a national campaign for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals which resulted in nearly $37 million for member hospitals across America.
Donations poured in Aug. 29 to Oct. 16, as Walmart and Sam’s Club associates at 36 Walmart stores throughout the County asked customers and members at the register to help kids live better.
“We are so grateful for the incredible support of Walmart and Sam’s Club, their associates, customers and members. For more than 29 years, Walmart has helped to provide hope and healing for our families,” said Carol Damon-Scherer, Vice President of Development for Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Many special programs rely on community support to operate, and with Walmart’s support, Rady Children’s will be better equipped to provide the excellent patient care we are known for nationwide.”
In addition to asking customers for donations at the register, stores hosted a variety of fundraising activities to help the kids at Rady Children’s through the Hospital’s Hope & Healing Fund. This program helps fund lifesaving technology and research, provides a safety net for children with little or no medical insurance and creates a healing environment designed to enrich the experience of patients and their families. With Walmart’s contributions to the fund, Rady Children’s is able to help fulfill the highest and greatest needs of the hospital and make a significant impact on the health of children in the community.
“We are so proud of how our customers, members and associates step up year after year to support Rady Children’s Hospital,” said Angela Wilson, Regional General Manager for Walmart in San Diego County. “The funds raised help ensure that children are getting the critical services and treatment they need to help them live better, healthier lives and we’re grateful to be a part of it.”
The fall campaign is the most recent in annual fundraising by the retailers. Walmart and Sam’s Club associates have collected nearly $1 billion for sick and injured children since partnering with the charity in 1987. Funds raised through Walmart and Sam’s Club impact each of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which treat one in 10 children across North America. Hospitals utilize the funds based on what they need most — typically providing lifesaving equipment and research, supporting top therapy programs and providing charitable care.
