Oceanside CA— The Oceanside Public Library has acquired a unique online service called Gale Courses for Community Education (the provider is part of the Cengage Learning Company). Oceanside residents visiting www.oceansidepubliclibrary.org can now access free, instructor-led, online courses. The next class session begins on June 15. Orientations will be offered at the Civic Center Library, 330 North Coast Highway, on Tuesday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with continuing opportunities for Library customers to be introduced to and assisted with the program by staff. For questions or more information, please contact the library at (760) 435-5600.
“Part of our mission, and a guiding principle at Oceanside Public Library is to inspire and engage life-long learning in our community,” says Library Director Sherri Cosby. “With these free Gale Courses, library customers in Oceanside will be able to pick courses to enroll in covering all kinds of subjects. The course catalog offers something for everyone, whether they are thinking about going back to school to pursue a degree in education, or just interested in digital photography, or any of a large variety of other topics.”
Customers can enroll at no cost. Courses run for six weeks, with two new lessons released weekly (for a total of 12), and new sessions beginning every month. The courses are entirely web-based, with comprehensive lessons, quizzes, and assignments. A dedicated, professional instructor coordinates every course by helping learners find the right pace to work at, answering questions, giving feedback, and facilitating discussions.
Oceanside residents can enroll and participate in courses from Library computers, or remotely, from home computers.
Developed as a result of the company’s unique position within the library, classroom, and adult learning markets, Gale Courses offer customers access to hundreds of instructor-led online classes covering everything from health and wellness to creative writing, computer programming, GED test preparation and much more. The courses have continuous enrollment dates, and are developed by expert instructors, many of whom are currently working at universities around the country.
