Oceanside CA— Parade floats are not the only entertainment that people can catch at the annual Oceanside Independence Day Parade. Local Marching Bands will be parading down Coast Highway on July 2nd, bringing music and fun to all spectators lining the streets. Many of these bands are from local high schools.
The Oceanside High School Marching Pirates will be one of the bands in attendance at the parade. The Marching Band consists of current students of Oceanside High School, alumni, and future students. The Marching Pirates will be led by first year band director Shane Reider. As a Southern California native, he has taught in Orange, Riverside, and San Diego counties. The band will be debuting new uniforms; the new modern outfit features black pants and a black and dark green jacket. This will be the first time in 20 years that the Marching Pirates have used the black uniforms.
El Camino High School Golden Pride will also be joining in the parade festivities. Band Director, Daniel James, who has been teaching for fifteen years and two of those being at El Camino High School, will be directing 70 students down Coast Highway. “They are very talented young people who are passionate about playing music, dance, and flag work,” stated Director Daniel James. The Marching Band will be debuting new uniforms along with a new song, America on Parade. This past year, the Golden Pride drum line won first place at their respective competitions, this would be their third winning year in a row.
To show your support of these local Marching Bands, come join in the fun at the Oceanside Independence Parade. The Independence Parade will begin at 10:00 A.M on July 2, 2016. It will parade down Coast Highway, starting on Wisconsin Street and ending at Pier View Way.
