Carlsbad City Library’s Cinema Series is hosting a free cinema chat and film screening where America’s wilderness comes alive on Saturday, Jan. 23, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Meet the Director Dennis Burkhart as audience members take a journey through Our National Parks, Burkhart’s documentary exploring America’s National Parks from the first moments of dawn to dusk’s final glow. Burkhart is director of cinematography for special projects at the Travel Channel and has worked and traveled around the world as a Peace Corps volunteer, mountaineer, photographer, filmmaker and travel guide. He has filmed in more than 85 national parks, capturing the unique qualities of each landscape.
Jan. 24, 2 p.m.
On Sunday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m., enjoy an author talk featuring acclaimed author, photographer and Alaskan wilderness guide Lynn Schooler, who will discuss his book and experiences on his artic adventure in Walking Home. Schooler’s book chronicles his solo journey seeking solace and escape in the Alaskan wilderness, traveling first by small boat across the formidable Gulf of Alaska, then on foot along one of the wildest coastlines in North America. Presented in partnership with Adventures by the Book.
