Carlsbad CA— Dan McAllister, San Diego County Treasurer, and Michael McSweeney, San Diego Building Industry Association (BIA), to speak at North County Republican Coalition.
On Monday, October 19th, please join the North County Republican Coalition (NCRC) to learn “Why Housing in San Diego is so Expensive – Impact of Government Actions in the Marketplace.” NCRC welcomes Dan McAllister, San Diego County Treasurer, and Michael McSweeney, Senior Public Policy Advisor, San Diego Building Industry Association (BIA), as they address this issue.
Dan McAllister was elected San Diego County’s Treasurer-Tax Collector in November 2002 and re-elected to his fourth term in June 2014 by an overwhelming 99% majority of the vote. Not only is he responsible for the collection of more than $5 billion in property taxes each year, but his office also manages the Investment Pool which reached an all-time high of $8.8 billion in April of 2014, ensuring that these funds are wisely invested and safeguarded for entities such as the school districts and cities in the County. Since assuming office, he has worked extensively to improve customer service, enhance communications and outreach initiatives, and has made numerous operational improvements.
A second-generation San Diegan, Dan holds a Bachelor’s degree (BA) from California State University, Fresno, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from United States International University. He has also completed executive education programs in portfolio concepts and management at Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
Michael McSweeney is the Sr. Public Policy Advisor for the San Diego Building Industry Association (BIA) and a 29-year licensed general contractor in the State of California.
Michael relocated from Ohio to San Diego in 1984. He started his own business in 1985, McSweeney & Associates, which specialized in residential renovation. In late 2011, McSweeney joined the San Diego BIA as a senior Public Policy Advisor. Melding his political involvement with his experiences in the building industry, Michael took on the challenge of representing the interests of the almost 700 member companies and their 40,000 employees on a wide range of public policy issues which affect their businesses and livelihoods. BIA lobbies against excess government regulation and policies that make it harder or more expensive to build in the region. It also advances positive legislative solutions built around the private sector expertise of its members.
The North County Republican Coalition (NCRC) promotes local Republican candidates and conservative issues in North County. NCRC meets the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at 83 Degrees, 660 Carlsbad Village Drive (Corner of Carlsbad Village Dr. & Roosevelt Street) Carlsbad, CA 92008. There is no charge to attend and guests are welcome. Dinner is optional, ordered individually from the menu. For more information, call 760-485-5178 or email mike.shimco@aol.com.
