Oceanside CA— The City of Oceanside announced its Senior of The Year Award at the Senior Expo which was held at the Oceanside Civic Center October 8, 2015. The Award was coordinated by the Oceanside Parks and Recreation Commission and the Senior Citizen Standing Committee. Twelve senior citizens were nominated.
The nominees were: Dick Bartlett, Judy Clarquist, William “Ted” Fritz, Chris Gow, Joan C. Horton, Howard LaGrange, Ed Partovich, Sondra Peppe, Anne Speraw, Michelle Ann Stone, Sharon Thomas and Gail Wells.
The honor was bestowed on Ms. Chris Gow. Chris has lived in Oceanside since 1997. She served in the US Army, was a member of the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), and has previously served for Oceanside Police Department Senior Volunteer Program.

Ms. Gow is a tremendous volunteer for MainStreet Oceanside, having served as a vendor volunteer, Ambassador and parade coordinator. She has been volunteering for several years with the Friends of Oceanside Parks (a non-profit fundraising group for Parks & Recreation).
Chris received a Proclamation from the City, a gift certificate, and her name has been inscribed on two plaques. The plaques list previous award winners, and future awardees names will be added. One will hang at the Country Club Senior Center and the other at El Corazon Senior Center.
