Oceanside CA— The Oceanside Public Library continues its Big Read celebration of True Grit by Charles Portis with a free film and book discussion on Wednesday, September 16 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Oceanside Museum of Art, located 704 Pier View Way in Oceanside.
True Grit, the story of young Mattie Ross and her quest to avenge her father’s death, inspired Hollywood to create two films – one that starred John Wayne (1969), and one directed and produced by the Coen brothers (2010). Professor Chaffin Quiray will lead a discussion, including key clips from both, about those films and how they compare to the novel.
