Oceanside CA— Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation will hold the 5th annual ‘Write On, Oceanside!’ Literary Festival underwritten by Oceanside Public Library in partnership with the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library. The event celebrates San Diego’s North County authors. This year North County’s largest literary event will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm in and around the Oceanside Civic Center Plaza and Community Rooms.
The organizers have planned an exciting event that will include live music, educational workshops, and activities for families and children. Attendees will have an opportunity to talk with their favorite writers, meet new local ones, take pictures and get autographs, and purchase books directly from the authors. Everybody can find their favorite genre at this fair: fiction, children’s books, teenage topics, how-to, comics / graphic novels, poetry, plays, science fiction / horror, biography / autobiography, gardening, cookbooks, animals, photography/art, mystery and spiritual. Renowned writer of 65 short stories and 9 novels Victor Villasenor will highlight this event doing a book talk and giving out autographs.
Lots of fun await participating writers and general public alike during the course of the festival, including One-Minute Pitch presentations, writing of Never Ending Story (a book combining one-sentence contributions from general public and authors), and Raffle Giveaway with Barnes And Noble NOOK e-readers as top prizes. Present at the event will be booths from Barnes and Noble offering a story time, Friends of the Library with its book sale, and Bookmobile.
Free educations workshops are part of the program. One of them, “Screenwriters’ Workshop”, will address the criteria production companies are looking for in screenplays, offer suggestions about the writing process, as well as what goes into adapting novels into screenplays. Other relevant material – such as writing loglines, synopses, and query letters – will also be covered. The workshop is presented by Leonie Albani-Tremaine, an award-winning writer who had also worked as a newspaper and magazine journalist. Leonie attended Dov Simens Film Production course in Hollywood, as well as American Film Institute courses in screenwriting.
Activities for children will take place in the courtyard next to the Community Rooms. They include Paper Bag Book Crafts (with hand-made book decorations and designated pages specially made for taking autographs from the writers), an interactive movie-like Story Board (pasting materials provided), and costumed popular book character present along with the library’s mascot to greet the young.
Admission to “Write On, Oceanside!” is free of charge to general public. For more information visit website www.ocaf.info/woo or contact woo@ocaf.info
