Oceanside CA– The Oceanside Firefighters are hosting a surf competition today at the North Jetty for charity. Local public safety officers are competing as part of the 18th annual Surf for the Sea event which continues through Sunday. Firefighters and Police Officers from all over Southern California will be competing until 5:00PM on Friday.
Surf for the Sea is a commemorative surfing event in loving memory of the late Harry Bennett, Steve Leighton, Tore Bonura, Chuck “Clubber” Hundley, Banning Capps, Court Overin, John Craven, Midget Smith, Casey Williams, Chris Pompa, Michael Pultz, and most recently Susie Prestie, all local surfers and family of Surf for the Sea who have passed away.
This is a memorial benefit for the Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Chapter and other Environmental Organizations helping to protect our coast, ocean, waves and beaches. Trophies will be awarded in 15 divisions. The entry fee is $50 for amateur and $100 for the Pro Division. All competitors receive an event T-shirt, lunch catered by local Oceanside restaurant Johnny Manana’s, and a chance at the opportunity raffle including surfboards, wetsuits, and great prizes provided by the surfing industry.
Surf for the Sea also includes a Beach Clean-Up that ties into the theme of environmental awareness.
