Oceanside CA– The San Luis Rey Rotary (of Oceanside) completed a loading ramp restoration project at the Military Outreach Ministries (MOM) Warehouse aboard the Camp Pendleton Marine Base.
Ron Rand. with the club. explains how MOM became a focus for their efforts “Mark Valle, one of our newest members, has been volunteering for some time at the MOM warehouse, which involves helping with their farmer’s market, 3rd Saturday of each month.” continued Ron, ” There the organization hands out free food they’ve collected to active duty military families E5 and below. This is especially important when a family member is deployed.”
“Mark had mentioned that the ramp walkways were in sad, and even dangerous condition.” The Rotary Club sent a team to investigate and found that the basic structure of the ramps was sound, but a hundred feet plus of walkways needed replacement, “So we purchased plywood, paint and paint supplies, got together about 15 of us and spent about six hours or so on a hot Saturday morning and replaced the existing walkways.” The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self”, and this type of project is very rewarding. explained Rand.
MOM programs provide young military families with gifts of gratitude from the community that will express thanks and help improve their quality of life. These programs serve more than 50,000 active-duty military and their dependents each year with innovative programs that provide essential items.
