Oceanside CA– A reunion for Oceanside High, Vista High, Carlsbad High, Fallbrook High, San Marcos High, Orange Glen High, and Escondido High track and field and cross country athletes from the years 1960 through 1980 is set for September 20, 2014. Coaches from those schools also will be invited. Tennis players from those schools from the years 1960-1970 also are invited.
The event will be held at the Grand Deli Restaurant, corner of Roosevelt in the Carlsbad Village from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
“All you can eat and drink for $15.00 each at the door.” The theme is “Friends and Foes,” as these schools had spirited rivalries in those years.
People indicating they will attend to date: Bob Larsen, current Olympic long distance coach and former UCLA head coach; Chick Embrey, Escondido High School; Willie Banks, Oceanside High and UCLA athlete, former world record holder in the triple jump; Willie Buchanon, Oceanside High School, former NFL star; members of the 1972 Vista High School CIF track championship team, members of the San Diego All-Stars who toured Finland and Sweden in 1973, members of the Southern California All Stars who toured Italy and Spain in 1976; Steve Schofield, former sports editor of the Oceanside Blade-Tribune, Steve Brand, former sports writer for the San Diego Union-Tribune, and others.
