San Diego County CA— After a 41-14 defeat last season at the hands of Mater Dei High School, in Chula Vista, things went the Grizzlies way in Friday night’s National Football Foundation game with Mission Hills upsetting the Crusaders, 56-7.
Jack Tuttle was 16-23 for 144 yards, 2-td. Chris Olave had 6 receptions for 112 yards. Sam Dixon had 4 carries for 18 yards and 2 touchdown on runs of 2 and 1 yards each. Teammate Damien Wigand’s (17 carries for 138 yards) scored 2 touchdown runs of 11 and 6 yards. Backup players Alan Arellano (4 carries for 54 yards) also contributed on a 15 yard touchdown run and Nathan Barraga scored on his only carry ,a 3 yard run.
JackTuttle on his performance vs. Mater Dei: “We won big today. I support my teammates they did a great job. I am very satisfied that we are 3-0 and hope to be 4-0 next Friday. My passing was good today and give my offensive line credit. They did the blocking and that is how we won.”
Mater Dei scored their only touchdown in the first quarter as Aiden Calvert scored on a 99 yard kickoff return in the first quarter tied the game at 7-7.
One player from each school were named the Most Valuable Player and will be invited to travel to the National Football Foundation Banquet in April of 2018. The Most Valuable Players were from Mater Dei was Aiden Calvert and for Mission HIlls, it was Damien Wigand.
The win sets up a match of unbeatens as the Grizzlies will travel to Carlsbad High School in what should be the North County Game of the Week, next Friday. Carlsbad defeated Sweetwater High School 49-0. The game will feature two high powered offenses and two stingy defenses. Mission Hills has out scored opponents 139-28 while Carlsbad has two shutouts and a 120-14 scoring edge over three opponents.
In other North County games:
Oceanside(1-1) had a bye and will face San Marcos(3-0) next week. The Knights defeated Del Norte 61-3. San Marcos has outscored opponents this season, 156-25.
El Camino(2-1) fell to Citrus Hills(2-0) in Perris, 9-28. The Wildcats host Torrey Pines(2-1) next week. The Falcons defeated Fallbrook(0-3), 44-0.
