Update: Quinne Pursell now holds all-time CIF record for career goals after scoring four, Tuesday night, in El Camino’s 11-7 win over Torrey Pines.
Oceanside CA— It was Senior Night at Brooks Street Pool, on Monday, as the Oceanside Lady Pirates hosted crosstown rival El Camino Wildcats, in the final regular season Water Polo match-up of the two teams. The Wildcats, behind 10 goals from Harvard bound senior, Quinne Pursell, defeated the Pirates 15-1.
El Camino got on top early with Purcell scoring four of the Wildcats first six goals in the first quarter and they never looked back. With the win, the Wildcats (17-7, 5-0), coached by El Camino alum, Dana Ocshner, clinched their first regular season title.
Nicole Rhoads had 3 goals with Bella Souza and Mara Davis each adding one to round out the scoring for the Wildcats. Julia Miller had six saves in goal.
Brooke Gleason scored the lone goal for the Pirates who fall to 5-15 overall, 0-5 in league play.
Purcell’s 10 goals gives her 554 for her high school career, one shy of tying the all time CIF record with three games left to play. Along with her prolific scoring, Purcell played goalie for a quarter making five saves. “That made her entire high school career,” said her mother, Kirsten. Quinne set the career mark for steals earlier this season.
In the Junior Varsity match-up, two goals each by Jincie Zadrozny, Valeria Gomez and Tatum Boonstra led El Camino to an 11-1 victory over the Pirates.
