Oceanside CA— The Oceanside Pirates(2-0) had little trouble with Morse(0-2) rolling the Tigers 48- 14 in a non-conference match-up on Simcox Field, Friday night.
Oceanside scored on their first possession marching 60 yards with Pirate QB, Max Shuffer rushing the final 10 yards for the score. Morse fumbled the ball on their first play from scrimmage inside their 17-yard line. Two plays later, Shuffer hit Jake Gerardi over the middle for a 14 yard touchdown. PAT was no good and it was 13-0 with 7:02 left in the first quarter. The two teams swapped punts with Oceanside getting possession on their own 49-yard line. The next play from scrimmage, Shuffer again hit Gerardi in stride and he sprinted 51 yards for the score, 20-0.
A Morse scoring threat was nullified when Azizi Hearn intercepted in the end-zone and ran it out past the 20. The run was brought back by a holding call giving the Pirates the ball on their own 14yard line. On the Pirates first play, Shuffer fumbled the snap pinning the Pirates back on their own 9-yard line. On second down, Shuffer dropped back and threw a perfect strike to Jake Gerardi in stride and he out sprinted the Morse defenders for the 91 yard touchdown.
Morse didn’t threaten again until their first possession of the second half. The Tigers went 80 yards in fourteen plays, eight of those plays were inside the Pirates 15-yardline, to avert the shutout.
After the two point conversion failed, Morse recovered on onside kick. Mikah Linnan ended any kind of Tiger scoring threat with a 66 yard pick 6. Shuffer threw for four TD’s and ran for one with five different Pirates scoring in the game. The Pirates have racked up 99 points in their first two games this season. Up next for Oceanside is a road game in Temecula to take on the Chaparral Pumas(1-1) who beat Poly(0-1) 21-19.
