Oceanside CA— The 2015 Honor Bowl, a football showcase benefiting military veterans, opened Friday with two match-ups, the Alemany High School Warriors from Mission Hills CA took on the Colony Titans out of Ontario CA and Eastside Catholic High School from Sammamish WA vs the Oceanside Pirates.
All teams playing in the Honor Bowl began the day with a special tour of The US Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Battalion–West, learning about how US Marines rehabilitate from injury to recovery. “The purpose of the Honor Bowl is to educate the parents, teachers, students, athletes and coaches about the needs of our veterans.” said event organizer, Mark Soto at halftime of the second game.
In that game, the Crusaders of Eastside Catholic High School lived up to their #1 ranking, in the state of Washington(#49 in the country) rolling over the Pirates 49-13.
Oceanside got on the board first with a 68-yard, opening drive capped off when Max Shuffer hit #20, Ronan Ivanonich at the six yard-line. He strolled in for the score with 5:20 left in the first quarter. From there, it was all Eastside Catholic High School. Eastside scored on each of their next six possessions including a four play, 48 yard drive after Oceanside turned the ball over with just 24.3 seconds left in the half.
Oceanside falls to 1-1 on the season and will host Chaparral(1-1) who lost, at home, last night to Poly (1-0), 35-30.
In the first game of the night, the Alemany Warriors scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters sprinting through the Titans defense for a 42-0 running clock win over Colony.
