It was a great weekend to start off another division of the Scholastic Surf Series. The first event of the season for Division 3 and 4 San Diego High Schools kicked off on Saturday, October 25 at Church’s. It was an awesome day of waves in the 3 to 4 foot range with a new northwest swell starting to show in the water. The Division 3 Mens Shortboard Final was a battle to the finish with 3 surfers (Nick Holdman, Westview, Gavin Doan and Liam Gloyd, Cathedral Catholic) scoring waves that ended up being within tenths of points from each other. Nick pulled off his first win of the season narrowly edging out Gavin and Liam while Austin Pardi from Westview started the new season with a win and will defend his title from last season. Looks like an exciting season ahead. In Division 4 Kristian Kocherga from Coronado took his first win of the season in Mens Shortboard while Jakue Aguerre from Bishops started the season where he left off last year with another win in the Mens Longboard Division. Congratulations to all the competitors.

On Sunday the Orange County Middle School Division 1 & Division 2 teams arrived to find some awesome perfect 4 to 6 foot waves from the new northwest swell that filled in overnight. Competitors could not wait to get their jerseys on and start ripping. A lot of the competitors were fresh off the day before at Uppers surfing in the Grom Search where our former SSS competitor, Kei Kobayashi scored the win and a trip to Bali. Congratulations Kei and we wish you luck.
The Shorecliffs (Div 1) boys shortboard team took the win with 5 of their team members in the boys final. Thurston was close behind and their surfer Kiko Nelson filled in the 6 man final.
Our newly formed division 2 shows some back up talent and performed well in the conditions.
It looks like another exciting year of surfing as teams gear up to see who can challenge the undefeated Shorecliffs team.
