Oceanside CA- The playoff brackets are set for the CIF San Diego Section. Oceanside (4-0, 8-2) drew a #3 seed in the Open Division and will host 6th seed Torrey Pines (3-1, 6-4) Friday night at Simcox Field 7:00PM. The Falcons, led by QB Pete Mitchell, has thrown for 1003 yard on 64 completions in 130 attempts, 11 TD’s and 6 interceptions. Their leading rusher is Devin Slubowski, 745 yards on 78 carries and 5 TD’s followed by Dwayne Hines with 598 yards on 98 carries and 6 touchdowns.
Oceanside QB, Matt Romero has thrown 1,614 yards and 21 TD’s this season with wide-out Mikah Holder on the receiving end of 815 of those yards. Leading rusher is Thai Cottrell, 627 yards on 88 carries an average of 7.13 when he carries the ball.
The Pirates hosted Torrey Pines in a pre-season game and a re-cap of that match-up can be found [here]. Mission Hills claimed the first seed and Eastlake took the 2nd seed in the bracket which begins play on Friday night, 7:00PM.
El Camino Draws 8 Seed in Division I Playoffs
Despite their troubles in Avocado League-West play, the El Camino Wildcats(0-4, 4-6) drew an 8 seed in the CIF San Diego Division I playoffs. The Wildcats will host Point Loma(2-2, 5-5), Friday night at 7:00PM for the right to take on #1 seed San Pasqual. The Point Loma Pointers have used three quarterbacks this season, Aj Smith, Gavin Grady and Quinn Bohannon with a combined total of 521 yards passing, 8TD’s and 3 interceptions. The Pointers average 5.78 yards a carry on the ground with Jaylen Griffin their leading rusher, 515 yards on 60 carries.
Only Vista High School(1-3, 2-8) from the Avocado League- West missed the post-season. Carlsbad High School(2-2, 8-2) drew a 4 seed and has a bye in the first round of Division I and La Costa Canyon(3-1, 7-3) drew a 5 seed in the Open Division and travels to 4th seed, Helix(5-0,8-2).
