San Marcos CA- The Pirates were in a gift giving mood, Friday night and Mission Hills was more than willing to accept as the Grizzlies take the number one spot from the Pirates, 30-6. The Grizzlies, DeChaun Holiday was the biggest recipient of Oceanside gift giving, three interceptions including a pick six early in the fourth quarter. The Pirates have been plagued by turnovers all year with seven against Chaparral, six against Serra and six again, last night.
Oceanside scored first on an 8 play drive covering 65 yards capped by a 3 yard scamper by Thai Cottrell, early in the second quarter. After a blocked PAT, Oceanside was never able to get back on track. Pirate QB, Matt Romero had four turnovers in the first half, three picks and a fumble. The Grizzlies were only able to muster six points from them, both field goals by Mission Hills kicker, Esteban Senteno who was down the middle from 44 and 50-yards.
The score was 6-6 at the half but Mission Hills came out of the locker room fired up. They drove the ball 80 yards in 8 plays on the running of Ricky Liuchan to take the lead for good. Turnovers continued to halt Pirate drives but Oceanside had a chance to get back in the game. The Pirates had three tries from inside the 4 to get a touchdown which led to a 4th and goal from the one. A run up the middle was stopped short by Mission Hills on a play that looked confused and never had a chance.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Pirates, who fell to 3-2. Oceanside plays its first league game and second straight undefeated opponent, on the road, when they take on the Avacado League leading, Lancers (5-0) Friday, October 11 at 7:00 pm in Carlsbad.

The Wildcats settled for three. RBV got back in the game with a 30 yard touchdown reception by Tre Baird making the score 10-7.
