Oceanside CA- The football regular season begins tomorrow night for Oceanside’s two high schools and the North County Cobras have their first home game on Saturday.
The El Camino Wildcats, under Head Coach Pulu Poumele, begin their season at home against Granite Hills, 7:00pm, in a non-conference game. The Wildcats look to improve on last seasons 7-5 record and return to the playoffs.
The Oceanside Pirates open their 25th season under head coach, John Carroll, at St Augustine. Kickoff is 7:00pm at Mesa College, 7250 Mesa College Dr. The Pirates have pre-season rankings of No. 1 in the county, 10th statewide and 44th in the country by MaxPreps. The team has 5 players committed to Division I colleges with 11 returning starters from the 2012 Division II Champions. The Pirates had a strong showing against Torrey Pines in last weekends scrimmage.
People going to the game, at Mesa, are reminded parking is free. There is no charge for parking in the student lots, and fans should not pay at the kiosks in these lots.
North County Cobras
Ramell Watts ran for 129 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns in the Cobras season opener, on the road, against the Southern California Steelers. Ivory Herd added another two touchdowns on 12 carries for 53 yards in the 30-26 win over the Steelers, last Saturday.
The Cobras home opener is Saturday, August 31, 7:00pm against the Los Angeles Falcons at Oceanside High School.
