Families interested in placing their children at San Dieguito Union High School District high school campuses for 2025-26 can apply for consideration starting Jan. 24, the district recently announced.
The district’s High School Selection Period opens 8 a.m. Jan. 24 and runs through 4 p.m. Feb. 13, according to a Jan. 7 news release. Several workshops are planned for the coming weeks:
✔ Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.: Canyon Crest Academy, 5951 Village Center Loop Road in Carmel Valley
✔ Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m.: La Costa Canyon High School, 1 Maverick Way in Carlsbad
✔ Jan. 30 at 4 p.m.: Torrey Pines High School, 3710 Del Mar Heights Road in Carmel Valley
✔ Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m.: San Dieguito High School Academy, 800 Santa Fe Drive in Encinitas
Eighth-grade students currently enrolled in a San Dieguito district middle school must indicate a high school choice during the selection period, the district stated. Students in grades nine through 11 will only need to make a selection if they would like to change schools for the next academic year. Students who prefer to remain at their current high school do not need to make a selection.
Students who live within San Dieguito district boundaries but who do not attend any of its schools must also make a selection by the deadline if they intend to enroll in the district next academic year. This includes students who are enrolled in private and Rancho Santa Fe district schools. Those moving into the San Dieguito district are only eligible to attend an Academy campus if their primary residence within the district boundary is verified before enrollment.
There are key differences between what are called schools of choice and boundary schools, according to the district. These distinctions might affect decisions that families can make.
San Dieguito High School Academy and Canyon Crest Academy are the district’s schools of choice, which means that students living anywhere in the district’s boundaries can apply for enrollment. Admission is not guaranteed, however.
La Costa Canyon and Torrey Pines high schools are boundary campuses, meaning that they have attendance based on designated residence addresses within the district’s boundary map. All students can attend their residential boundary school for grades 9 through 12.
More information, including updates and other key dates in the process, is available on the district’s High School Selection site.
