The city of Encinitas has a nomination call out for its annual senior citizen and environmental awards.
Environmental Award Program nominations are open through Feb. 14, and nominations for the Senior Citizen Service Award are open until March 20.
Environmental Award Program
The city’s 10th annual Environmental Award Program, held by the Environmental Commission, highlights individuals, businesses and nonprofits for noteworthy commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
“We have so many community members and businesses making a difference to protect the environment,” Environmental Commission Co-Chair Mark O’Connor said in a news release. “It is an honor to recognize the good work being done.”
The program has two categories: The Excellence in Environmental Stewardship award, granted to a for-profit and nonprofit business, and the Environmental Hero award, which recognizes an adult and youth for noteworthy environmental achievements.
Last year’s winners received recycled glass trophies made by San Dieguito Trophy, presented during a City Council meeting last April.
Nominations are open until 11:59 p.m. Feb. 14. Nominations can be made by completing the 2024 Environmental Award Program Nomination Form online.
Senior Citizen Service Award
The Senior Citizen Service Award recognizes an Encinitas senior citizen who demonstrates noteworthy volunteerism, leadership, advocacy and mentorship, according to a city news release. The award is offered by the city’s Senior Citizen Commission in partnership with the Encinitas Rotary Club.
“Our city has grown in beauty, as a home to many, on the shoulders of the Encinitas seniors who believe in the spirit of volunteering,” Senior Citizen Commissioner Maureen Martin said in the city’s news release. “Please help us recognize one this year.”
The winner will be honored at a City Council meeting with a perpetual plaque placed at the Encinitas Senior Center. They will be recognized as a guest of honor at an Encinitas Rotary Club meeting and invited to participate in the Encinitas Holiday Parade as a special guest of the Senior Citizen Commission.
Nominations can be made by filling out an online nomination form, printed and mailed to the City of Encinitas, Senior Citizen of Year Award, Parks and Recreation Department, 505 S. Vulcan Ave., Encinitas, CA 92024. The form can also be emailed to PRCA@encinitasca.gov. Mailed applications must be postmarked and emailed submissions must be received by 4 p.m. March 20.
The nomination forms, eligibility guidelines and other details for both events are available at encinitasca.gov/recognition.
