A man was in serious condition after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle Jan. 1 in Encinitas, authorities reported.
The collision occurred just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Encinitas Boulevard and Cerro Street, according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Office report. Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station responded to the incident.
A Hyundai Elantra driven by a 78-year-old woman was headed east on Encinitas Boulevard when it hit the cyclist, identified as a 45-year-old man, just east of Cerro Street, the report stated. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be a factor in the collision, authorities stated.
